The Murchie Family Fieldhouse is a 92,000 square feet facility for year-round training. It houses a full-size turf football field, 6,000 feet of rubber sprinting tracks, a triple jump pit, a pole vaulting pit and motorized suspended softball hitting tunnels. It also contains two mulit-level indoor filming/viewing towers.
The facility will house university events, expanded student recreation programming and intramurals. With the addition of this fieldhouse, UB is among 10 other Mid-American Conference schools that have such a facility in the 12-member conference.
Tunney Murchie is owner and president of Lackawanna Products Corporation in Clarence, NY. He is a 1975 graduate of Buffalo with a degree in management and also earned his MBA from UB in 1976. He played hockey for the Bulls from 1971-73 and was an assistant coach with the program in 1974. His wife, Deanna, is a 1974 graduate of Buffalo with a degree in public health. The entire Murchie family has been committed to "the on-going efforts to improve the facilities at UB for all sports programs".
