How does the International Atomic Energy Agency combat malnutrition? Meet with Dr. Cornelia Loechl to find out.

Dr. Cornelia Loechl is Head of the Nutritional and Health-Related Environmental Studies Section within the Division of Human Health at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).  The IAEA is part of the UN system, with headquarters in Vienna, Austria.  Part of its mission is to increase “the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health and prosperity throughout the world”. The Nutritional and Health-Related Environmental Studies Section advances this mission through funding and cooperation in the application of stable isotope methods to develop and evaluate interventions to combat malnutrition.  Dr. Loechl has extensive international research and programmatic experience in nutrition.  Prior to joining the IAEA, she was based in Uganda with the International Potato Center (CIP), where she evaluated the feasibility of conducting large scale interventions to improve vitamin A intakes from orange sweet potato among women and children.  Earlier, under the auspices of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), she conducted an evaluation of two food-assisted maternal and child health and nutrition programs in rural communities in Haiti.

 
Dr. Loechl will be visiting University at Buffalo on July 26, 2017 and will be available to meet with students, researchers and faculty.
