Librarian Honored By American Library Association

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Christopher V. Hollister, of Buffalo, information literacy librarian in the University at Buffalo Arts and Sciences Library, and former UB librarian Stewart Brower were honored at the annual conference of the American Library Association in Chicago in July for their creation and editorship of the journal Communications in Information Literacy, the first born-digital, open-access, peer-reviewed journal devoted entirely to information literacy.

Hollister and Brower received a special certificate of recognition and plaque during the conference's meeting of the instruction section of the Association of College and Research Libraries.

The journal debuted in 2007 and has completed its second volume. It can be found at http://www.comminfolit.org/index.php/cil.

Hollister calls it "an independent, professional, refereed electronic journal dedicated to advancing knowledge, theory and research in the area of information literacy, and committed to the principles of information literacy, as set forth by the Association of College and Research Libraries, and to the principles of open access for academic research."

Brower, MLIS, AHIP, former coordinator of information management education in the UB Health Sciences Library, currently directs the Schusterman Center Library of the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa.

Hollister holds bachelor's degrees in both English and communications and a master's degree in library science, all from UB.
