UB Engineering Alumni Association

Since its founding in 1960 by Howard E. Strauss, MS '54, professor emeritus of mechanical and aerospace engineering, the UB Engineering Alumni Association has worked to establish, promote and maintain service to the UB School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

The group sponsors or cosponsors a number of events throughout the year, provides financial assistance, promotes professionalism and participates in university service. Its nearly 1,000 members are encouraged to actively support UB through their time and resources.

Each year the association presents the prestigious UB Engineer of the Year award, given to an outstanding alumnus who serves as a role model for students. In addition, the UBEAA co-presents scholarships during the annual school-wide Scholarship Reception, which draws more than 200 attendees. Also during the reception the UBEAA awards its own scholarship to "Leaders in Excellence," students who demonstrate spirit and a sense of loyalty to the school.

UBEAA also recognizes the importance of fostering the enthusiasm of students majoring in engineering, and provides funding opportunities for student club activities, including participation in competitions such as the American Society of Civil Engineers' Concrete Canoe Competition and the Society of Automotive Engineers' Clean Snowmobile Challenge.

Bringing students together with alumni for valuable networking opportunities is also a major activity of the UBEAA, which occurs during its annual UB Bulls football tailgate event or basketball game reception. The association also holds a kickoff celebration for Engineers Week and participates in the Order of the Engineer, a national effort to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession.

Thanks to the activities and support of the UBEAA and its members, UB students, alumni, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the entire university community have benefited.
