Mara Huber‘s research and professional interests include experiential learning and community-based partnerships for sustainable development. 

At UB, Huber has served in several leadership roles focused on fostering student and faculty engagement and building capacity for high-impact experiential learning. She is interested in how diverse professionals and students can collaborate to tackle complex challenges, especially through international collaborations.

Through her work, Huber activates the potential of students to address sustainable development. Through PEARL (Prepare, Engage and Add Value, Reflect, and Leverage) Project Challenges and digital badges, she connects students and educators with community-based partners working on sustainable development around the world. As students work to add value through project deliverables, they develop skills and competencies that connect with employers and emerging areas of innovation and economic development.

In addition to her roles at UB, Huber serves as senior special advisor for education and experiential learning to the Governor of Enugu, Nigeria. Her new book, “Experiential Learning for Sustainable Development: A Foundational  Model for Climate Action,” provides a guide to designing and scaling PEARL Project Challenges and features stories of partners in Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda who are leveraging experiential learning for transformational impacts.
