Fayek Ghabriel Yassa, 82, retired anatomy professor
Services were held Sept. 5 in St. George's Orthodox Catholic Church for Fayek Ghabriel Yassa, 82, a retired surgeon who had served as an anatomy professor at the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Yassa died Aug. 31 in St. Joseph Hospital, Cheektowaga.
He graduated at the top of his medical class from the University of Cairo and was a professor of surgery at Cairo University before coming to the U.S. 30 years ago. He established a private surgery practice and began teaching anatomy at UB in 1987, continuing until illness forced his retirement.
Yassa was a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the Erie County and New York State medical societies.
