Writing contest open to all SUNY campuses

Writers of science fiction and science fact at all SUNY campuses will be able to compete for cash prizes in a contest sponsored by Oswego State College.

Part of the "Our Digital Age" celebration this month at Oswego, the contest is open to any student, faculty or staff member at any of the State University's 64 campuses. Submissions may be previously unpublished short stories, poetry or magazine articles.

"We are looking for short fiction, poetry and magazine nonfiction that address issues concerning "Our Digital Age," said Leigh Wilson, contest coordinator and director of the Writing Arts Program in Oswego's English Department. "We welcome science fiction-cyberpunk to humanist-fantasy, realism, humor, autobiography, the visionary and the re-visionary."

The contest, with prizes of $500 for first; $200, second and $100, third, will be judged by author James Patrick Kelly, who received the 1996 Hugo Award for his novelette, "Think Like a Dinosaur."

Submissions will be accepted through Dec. 1 by e-mail to odawrite@oswego.edu The following method of submission is preferred: Manuscripts must be in plain ASCII text format (not in proprietary word processor format) and may be included in the body of an e-mail message or sent as attachments to an e-mail message.
