Newman reappointed chair of UB Foundation board

send this article to a friendReginald B. Newman, II, president of NOCO Energy Corp., has been reappointed chair of the board of trustees of the University at Buffalo Foundation, Inc.

Prior to becoming chair in 1996, Newman, who has been affiliated with the board since 1989, was vice chair of the foundation and had served as chair of the investment committee.

The foundation promotes the activities and programs of the University at Buffalo by providing support and advice regarding fund-raising and managing gifts and grants on behalf of the university, providing a wide range of financial services for various units of the university, developing and managing real property on behalf of the university and providing a broad base of private-sector support for the university through the foundation's trustees and directors.

The board of trustees, which participates in the university's development program, is responsible for raising community awareness of the need for private support for UB, soliciting gifts on behalf of it and managing assets received by the foundation. The board also provides advice and counsel to the president of the university on matters involving the UB community and its constituencies.

Other officers appointed by the foundation are John N. Walsh, III, chairman and chief executive officer, Walsh Duffield Companies, Inc., vice chair; Richard E. Heath, partner in the law firm of Hodgson, Russ, Andrews, Woods and Goodyear, secretary, and Carol V. Kociela, senior vice president, Regional Commercial Bank, Marine Midland Bank, treasurer.

The foundation also elected several new trustees for three-year terms. They are Sal H. Alfiero, founder, chairman and CEO of Mark IV Industries, Inc.; Dianne Bennett, president of Hodgson Russ; Luiz F. Kahl, president of Vector Group, LLC, and chairman of the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority; Ross B. Kenzie, former chairman and CEO of Goldome; Northrup R. Knox, Jr., founder and principal in Noonmark Capital; Delbert W. Mullens, president and CEO of Wesley International, Inc., and Walsh.

Re-elected to three-year terms as trustees were Randall I. Benderson, vice president, Benderson Development Co., Inc.; Ellen E. Grant Bishop, commissioner, Erie County Department of Mental Health; Frank L. Ciminelli, president, Ciminelli Development Co., Inc., and Gerald S. Lippes, partner in the law firm of Lippes, Silverstein, Mathias & Wexler.

William H. Pearce, president, Pearce and Pearce Co., Inc., has been named trustee emeritus of the foundation.

Re-elected to three-year terms as directors were Sheldon M. Berlow, chairman, Berlow Real Estate, Inc.; Lawrence D. Jacobs, UB professor of neurology, and Leonard Rochwarger.
