Hallwalls to present Tony Conrad retrospective

Tony Conrad, professor of media study, is the subject of a three-day retrospective to be presented Oct. 25-27 at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, 341 Delaware Ave., Buffalo.

"Pioneer of the Minimal: Tony Conrad Retrospective" includes three evenings of experimental music, film and video, beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday with a musical performance by Conrad in the center's Asbury Hall in the Church. Cellist Jonathan Golove, UB assistant professor of music, will be a member of the accompanying ensemble. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for Hallwalls members, students and senior citizens.

A program of Conrad's videos/films will be presented at 8 p.m. Oct. 26 and includes "No Europe" (1990), "Beholden to Victory" (1983), "Coming Attractions" (1970) and "Studio of the Streets," which is a series of excerpts from Conrad's cable-access show.

More films and videos will be presented at 8 p.m. Oct. 27, to be followed by a lecture and discussion with Conrad and Branden Joseph, associate professor of art history and archaeology at Columbia University. Included in this program will be "The Flicker" (1966), "Straight and Narrow" (1970), "Film Feedback" (1972) and "Cycles of 3s and 7s" (1977).

Tickets for each evening of videos and films cost $7 for general admission, $5 for students/seniors and $4 for Hallwalls members.
