The Office of Annual Giving is reintroducing PossiBull, a crowdfunding platform designed to help UB faculty, staff and alumni support causes that have a direct impact on the campus community.

Pauline Mendola, chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health, School of Public Health and Health Professions, was honored recently with the Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Epidemiology (ACE). This prestigious award recognizes Mendola’s exceptional contributions and dedication to the organization; the recipient is chosen by the group’s executive committee.

Ambassador Matt Murray, U.S. senior official for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), will speak as part of a roundtable on “International Trade at a Crossroads” from 3-4:30 p.m. Nov 1 in 106 O’Brian Hall, North Campus.

The Center for the Arts’ celebration of its 30th anniversary continues Oct. 29 with “Art in the Open,” an opportunity for the campus community and the public to experience the energy and diversity of UB’s artistic hub with free performances of music, dance, musical theater and film, plus open studios, gallery exhibitions, installations and opportunities to meet university artists.

Complex data structures made up of many interconnected elements play a large role in a variety of public health topics, including environmental epidemiology and climate science. Columbia University biostatistician Kiros Berhane will explore the issue of complex data structures at this year’s J. Warren Perry Lecture on Nov. 8.

It’s getting to be that time of year again — time to celebrate the holiday season by giving back. UB departments that want to bring some holiday cheer to local families in need can take part in the university’s annual Adopt-a-Family initiative.

UB honored 20 alumni at the 2024 UB Alumni Achievement Awards ceremony on Oct. 17, recognizing alumni who have brought distinction to the university.

The Mingus Dynasty Septet, which performs exclusively the music of the late jazz master Charles Mingus, who taught at UB in 1971, will visit campus on Nov. 1.

Threats to health are in our air, water and soil. Environmental epidemiologists like Francine Laden are researchers who try to connect the dots between our environment and our health, and their work is helping shape public health as we know it.

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has established the Edelman Endowed Chair in Experimental Therapeutics.
