First-year/first-time (freshman) applicants can apply online through the Coalition Application, SUNY Application or Common Application. Transfer applicants can apply online through the Coalition Application or SUNY Application.
Choose only one online application and carefully follow the instructions on the application that you choose.
After you complete and submit your application, we will send you an email with a unique link to your Applicant Status Page, where you can monitor your application status. You are strongly encouraged to check this page regularly for updates about your application.
You will upload and submit any additional application documents through the Applicant Status Portal. You do not need to send us anything in the mail.
After you have submitted your complete application and required documents, your application will undergo a holistic review to determine if you qualify for admission to UB.
Once an admissions decision has been made, an update will be provided in your Applicant Status Portal.

Once you have decided to enroll at UB, you can secure your seat by making your tuition/enrollment deposit. (Login required.)
If you are planning to live on campus, please visit the Campus Living website to submit a housing application and pay the housing application deposit. The housing application system typically opens in September for the spring semester and February for the fall semester.
Once you have made your tuition/enrollment and housing deposits, it’s time to begin your New International Student Check-in. Activate your UB student account and get started on check-in.
To meet reporting requirements and be able to register for classes, complete your check-in early.
Before we issue your I-20, your admissions counselor will do a final review of all your documents. If we are missing anything, we will contact you via email to let you know what we need.
Once you’ve paid your tuition deposit and uploaded all the required documents, we will create your I-20 (F-1 Visa) or DS-2019 (J-1 Visa). Once issued, you can find the document in your Applicant Status Portal.
Now is the time to get your visa, arrange transportation to the U.S. and determine what you will need while living in Buffalo. We can’t wait to welcome you to our university community!
