ENTREPRENEURSHIP LAW CENTER (E-LAW CENTER)
The Entrepreneurship Law Center (e-Law Center) provides quality legal services for early-stage entrepreneurs and startups who are not yet ready or able to engage outside legal counsel.
We strive to support economic development efforts and contribute to the thriving entrepreneurship community in Western New York by providing complimentary legal services to early-stage startups, most of which stem from innovations generated at UB or at one of its partners on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. We also aid minority and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs), with a particular focus on high-growth companies.
We offer a range of services catered to your startup, including but not limited to:
The center will serve student, faculty and alumni (within 2 years) startups and entrepreneurs at the University at Buffalo and partnering organizations Roswell Park Comprehensive Care Center, Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute, the Jacobs Institute, Kaleida Health and the Western New York Incubator Network (WIN). Companies should be early stage (pre-financing) in need of assistance with legal matters and are either unable to afford or not ready for traditional legal services.
The Entrepreneurship Law Center will offer a range of services for startups including but not limited to: formation options; corporate governance; employment matters; shareholders agreements; non-disclosure agreements; intellectual property matters including patent, copyright and trademark filing and trade secret protection; licensing; vendor and customer contracts; investor finance; employee stock incentive plans; MWBE certification; privacy policies and terms of service; regulatory guidance; and general subject matter research.
Companies and founders will be responsible for covering the actual costs incurred with providing services. This may include, but not be limited to, filing fees with New York State Agencies, copying costs, USPTO fees, etc.
