This award recognizes a senior student-athlete who demonstrates leadership on campus and in the community beyond their own team.
The UB Intercollegiate Athletics Board (IAB), created when UB moved up to Division I, is an oversight group for NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics.
Each year, the IAB gives out the Student-Athlete Leader Award to a UB student-athlete who has proven themselves as a leader and a valued member of the community.
The award was established by Judith Adams-Volpe, who retired from UB in 2010 after holding a number of positions for the UB Libraries.
A staunch supporter of UB athletics, Adams-Volpe chaired UB’s Intercollegiate Athletics Board, assisted in preparing NCAA compliance reports, volunteered on annual fundraising campaigns, and developed public exhibits and displays in Alumni Arena for Girls and Women in Sports Day, Black History Month and Women’s History Month.
The UB Bulls compete in Division I intercollegiate sports — the highest level of competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) — in the prestigious Mid-American Conference. Our facilities include UB Stadium, Alumni Arena (including the Natatorium), the world-class University Tennis Center, and Nan Harvey Field.
