Anadi named inaugural UB SPPS PAL Fellow

The SPPS PAL Fellowship is a two-year program designed to mentor postgraduates for a career in academic pharmacy. It aims to recruit and train aspiring academicians from historically underrepresented groups to further diversify pharmacy faculty across the academy, supporting the strategic plans of both SPPS and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).

“Anadi is a perfect fit for our program, having completed a PharmD and Masters in Instruction and Curriculum Leadership,” says William Prescott, Jr., PharmD, chair and clinical professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice. “She will be fully equipped to enter and excel in a clinical faculty position following her 2-year fellowship. We are thrilled to have her join our school as a member of the inaugural PAL Fellowship class!”

Anadi will begin her two-year fellowship program with SPPS in July. During the program, she will engage in all facets of academic life, including teaching, research, practice, service and leadership.

“I am honored to be named the inaugural PAL Fellow at UB SPPS this year,” says Anadi. “I was excited to discover that UB SPPS saw the additional need for a program that would carefully train pharmacists as educators, and this fellowship allows me the opportunity to take an intentional step toward that direction. My passion for pharmacy academia began and has been supported early on in my pharmacy journey, and I am thrilled to be able to pursue it with an institution that is committed to improving healthcare quality through its robust and innovative curriculum.”

Anadi earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Tennessee (UT) Health Science Center in 2021, a Master of Science in Instruction and Curriculum Leadership at the University of Memphis in 2022, and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UT in 2023.

While attending UT, Anadi was a student-leader and member of Phi Lambda Sigma, serving as a student ambassador and member of the school’s Curriculum Committee. She also gained considerable teaching experience, serving as an instructor for Basic Life Support courses. From 2020-2022 she served as chair of the CPR Committee for the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), where she educated pharmacy students, faculty, staff and community members on CPR, First Aid, and AED use and provided more than 300 certifications. She also completed an intensive academic rotation where she developed and delivered recitation and case-based lectures to first- and third-year students and engaged in educational research studying academic and non-academic factors affecting first-generation pharmacy student success.

As the first PAL fellow, Anadi hopes to inspire students to become successful health care leaders in the Buffalo community.

“While at UB SPPS, I hope to develop an approach to teaching that inspires students to become independent, confident learners and leaders, engage in relevant and impactful educational and clinical research, and continue to provide quality patient care as a leader in pharmacy for the Buffalo community,” says Anadi. “I cannot wait to continue down this path learning and training under many notable pharmacy clinicians and educators and I hope to be able to pave the way for many more PAL fellows to come, who also share a deep interest in pharmacy academia!”

Following successful completion of the fellowship program, Anadi will have the opportunity to apply for direct transition to a clinical faculty position at SPPS.
