UB Pharmacy hosts visiting pharmacists from Taiwan

Gina Prescott, PharmD, director of Global and Community Outreach and clinical associate professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, hosted visiting pharmacists Yen Jung (“Annie”) Chang, MS, infectious disease pharmacist at Shuang Ho Hospital in New Taipei City, Taiwan, Wen-Chen (“Irene”) Lee, PharmD, pulmonary pharmacist at Taipei Municipal Wanfang Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan, along with Fan-Ying Chan, PhD student at TMU. The visitors met with Gary Pollack, PhD, dean, UB SPPS, who welcomed them to UB.

During their visit at UB SPPS, Chang and Lee learned about our clinical pharmacy models, clinical pharmacy decision support tools, research, integration of research into clinical practice, as well as student and resident precepting. When they return to TMU, Chang and Lee will implement these practices at their local academic and hospital systems. They also learned about our healthcare system and shadowed at UB, Erie County Medical Center, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dent Neurologic Institute, Buffalo General Medical Center, and General Physician, PC.

Chan focused on a graduate student machine learning project with Peter Elkin, MD, professor and chair, Department of Biomedical Informatics and professor of Internal Medicine, Department of Biomedical Informatics, Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.

Their visit further strengthened our partnership with TMU, a key partner school UB SPPS works with throughout the academic year to provide teaching support, research projects and advanced pharmacy practice experiences to both UB SPPS and TMU pharmacy students and TMU pharmacists.
