    The JET Program is a competitive employment opportunity that allows young professionals to live and work in cities, towns, and villages throughout Japan. Being a JET is an opportunity to work and to represent the United States as cultural ambassadors to Japan. Most participants serve as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and work in public and private schools throughout Japan; some work as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) as interpreters/translators.
  • James Madison Graduate Fellowships

    The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation offers $24,000 to individuals desiring to become outstanding teachers of the American Constitution at the secondary school level. Fellowship applicants compete only against other applicants from the states of their legal residence. As funding permits, the foundation plans to offer one fellowship per state per year.

  • Institute for Citizens and Scholars Dissertation Fellowship in Women’s Studies

    The Institute for Citizens and Scholars Dissertation Fellowships in Women’s Studies support the final year of dissertation writing for PhD. Candidates in the humanities and social sciences whose work addresses topics of women and gender in interdisciplinary and original ways. In each round, 10 fellows will receive $5,000 to be used for expenses connected with completing their dissertations, such as research-related travel, data work/collection and supplies.
  • Innovation in Buildings (IBUILD) Graduate Research Fellowship

    The Innovation in Buildings (IBUILD) Graduate Research Fellowship is a program managed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory. There is a diversity gap in STEM (including building science), meaning that certain groups are underrepresented or have been historically excluded from STEM fields. These groups include, but are not limited to, those based on race, ethnicity, and gender — and this gap needs to be addressed. As part of the next generation of building science thought leaders and researchers, IBUILD Fellows have a unique opportunity to influence this industry. The fellowship will strengthen the pool of well-trained, diverse MS and PhD scholars who are equipped for research-intensive building technologies careers across all sectors. IBUILD Fellows will receive research and educational support to conduct innovative, building science-related research at their home institution in an area with demonstrated relevance to building energy efficiency.  In addition to funding high-quality research, the fellowship will provide professional development, mentoring, networking, and support for internship opportunities.

  • Humanity in Action Fellowship

    The Humanity in Action Fellowship brings together international groups of fellows to study minority rights and produce original research exploring how and why individuals and societies, past and present, have resisted intolerance and protected democratic values. Separate programs take place for five weeks every summer in Amsterdam, Atlanta, Berlin, Copenhagen, Sarajevo and Warsaw. The objective of the Humanity in Action Fellowship programs is to facilitate a collective exploration of the social and political roots of discrimination, as well as to provide a forum where potential solutions to some of today’s most challenging issues can be considered and discussed.
  • Humanities Institute Advanced PhD Fellowship

    Fellows meet in monthly works-in-progress seminars to gain interdisciplinary perspectives on their research. Each department in the humanities, broadly defined, may nominate up to two candidates for the Fellowships, as selected by the department’s Director of Graduate Studies.
