UB remains among the top public universities in the nation, according to the latest rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report.

UB came in at No. 38 this year, making it five consecutive years that UB, a flagship of SUNY, has ranked among the top 40 public universities in the country.

UB also placed No. 89 on this year’s U.S. News list of best national universities, both public and private, an improvement of four spots from last year.

We are proud of our faculty and the outstanding research, educational and clinical programs we offer,” says A. Scott Weber, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

The annual rankings are based on an assessment of nearly 1,900 four-year institutions using a variety of weighted educational metrics.

UB is listed several times in the online news magazine’s 2023 Best Colleges issue. In other categories, UB ranked:

• No. 65 among undergraduate computer science programs, an improvement of 17 spots from last year. The rankings in this category are based entirely on the judgments of deans and senior faculty members in computer science departments at institutions around the country. Among public universities this year, UB placed No. 37 in undergraduate computer science programs.
• No. 68 among undergraduate engineering programs that offer doctoral degrees. Among public universities in this category, UB is ranked 38.

• No. 67 on the list of undergraduate nursing programs, an improvement of nine spots from the previous year. Among public universities in this category, UB placed No. 48.

• No. 56 among best colleges for veterans. The ranking is based on which colleges make it more affordable for veterans and active-duty service members to pursue a degree. UB ranked No. 38 among public universities.
• No. 69 among top performers on social mobility. Social mobility measures how successful colleges are at graduating disadvantaged students awarded federal Pell Grants. UB ranked No. 48 among public universities.
• No. 87 for graduating students with the least debt. UB is ranked No. 56 among public universities.

UB also remains high on the list of national universities with the most international students. International students comprise 13% of undergraduates enrolled at UB.

UB is one of a number of public universities from the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU) that are highly ranked. Others include University of California, Berkeley; University of Michigan; The Ohio State University; Indiana University, Bloomington; Michigan State; Penn State; University of Wisconsin-Madison; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; Purdue; and Rutgers.
