Maternal and pediatric exposure to toxic chemicals, exposure to lead and ‘forever chemicals,’ impacts on immune function including vaccine response, infectious and allergic respiratory disease.
Marina Oktapodas Feiler is an expert on the effects of exposure to various environmental toxic chemicals, including so-called “forever chemicals” such as perfluorinated compounds, phthalates (plasticizers), and lead and heavy metal exposure.
Her research focuses on how these toxicants affect the health of mothers and babies and young children, in addition to impacts on immune dysfunction, respiratory diseases such as asthma, allergies, and breastfeeding success.
Feiler’s research has been funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, both part of the National Institutes of Health.
She serves as principal investigator for the Pediatric Environmental Health and Development Studies (PEDS) Lab at UB.
