Carla Martínez Machain is an expert on foreign policy analysis, with a focus on military policy, international conflict, and civil-military relations. Her research has been funded by the Department of Defense’s Minerva Initiative and the Army Research Office, and she has experience speaking to military audiences.
Her book with Oxford University Press is titled “Beyond the Wire: U.S. Military Deployments and Host Country Public Opinion.” She has also written for policy-oriented outlets such as the Washington Post's Monkey Cage blog and The Conversation.
She is also an authority on the use of aerial bombing as a tool of coercion, and on preventing civilian harm from it. She is the author of six peer-reviewed articles on this topic.
