Gregory Homish
Professor and Chair of Community Health and Health Behavior
AREAS OF EXPERTISE:
Substance use and misuse; substance use among military personnel; substance use and families; emergency preparedness and response; health of emergency responders
Gregory Homish is a psychiatric epidemiologist with expertise in substance use and mental health.
Among other topics, Homish has studied how substance use and misuse impact families, investigating topics such as how drinking and smoking might affect marriages. He has also investigated these issues in the context of the military, with research focusing on military personnel, including reservists.
Homish has expertise in trauma and emergency preparedness. He can speak to media about topics such as disaster response in rural areas and the effect of emergency response on first responders.
He is a member of the Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee of the World Trade Center Health Program, which provides medical monitoring and treatment for survivors of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, and for emergency personnel who responded to scenes in New York City and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, as well as at the Pentagon.
