Magnetism, spintronics, nanomaterials, materials science, materials for solar energy harvesting
Hao Zeng is a physicist who studies magnetism and spin, an intrinsic characteristic of an electron that determines a material’s magnetic properties.
Zeng’s research includes investigating spin and magnetic phenomena in materials at reduced dimensions, such as two-dimensional thin films, one-dimensional nanowires and zero-dimensional nanocrystals.
While his focus is on basic science, his work is driven by future applications in information technologies, renewable energy and biomedicine. For example, Zeng’s lab is developing and researching magnetic nanostructures for advanced magnets and heated magnetic nanoparticles for killing cancer cells (magnetic hyperthermia).
