Health information avoidance, illness risk perception
Heather Orom can speak to the media about health information avoidance, or reluctance to engage with health information and associated behavior such as not obtaining medical care or screening — for example, colon cancer screening.
Orom conducts research on who avoids health information, its consequences and how to disrupt it through, for example, using humor to encourage people to engage with health information.
Orom is also an expert on factors that affect people’s perception of their personal risk for developing disease.
