Advanced manufacturing, mass customization, engineering design
Kemper Lewis can speak to the media about advanced manufacturing, including mass customization, sustainable design and how businesses use technology to design and build systems that bring products to market faster while remaining ecologically and economically sustainable.
In addition to serving as dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, he is director of UB’s Community of Excellence in Sustainable Manufacturing and Advanced Robotic Technologies (SMART), an initiative that harnesses the strengths of faculty across the university to develop advanced manufacturing processes and technologies that enable cost-effective design of highly customizable, high-quality products.
Lewis also serves as co-principal investigator for a National Science Foundation grant focusing on cyber-empathic design, which is the use of embedded sensors (in addition to surveys and other traditional sources of data) in products to measure their effectiveness in the ever-emerging Internet of Things.
