Head shot of Nicholas Rajkovich, University at Buffalo climate change expert.

Nicholas Rajkovich conducts research at the intersection of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and adaptation to climate change in buildings and in Great Lakes communities.

He can speak to the media about these topics, including the concept of climate refuge cities, especially in Western New York and other parts of the Great Lakes region.

Rajkovich’s work focuses in part on strategies for making cities and buildings — ranging from homes and apartments to office and commercial spaces — more efficient and resilient to extreme weather events. Among other projects, his team published a series of reports to help New York’s policymakers, architects, builders, building owners and managers, and residents understand the impacts climate change has on the state’s building sector.

By studying how the built environment adapts to extreme weather and climate change, Rajkovich works to solve problems that may plague cities of the future.

Rajkovich's career prior to joining UB included serving as a senior program engineer in the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) Customer Energy Efficiency Department, where he coordinated a new zero net energy pilot program.
