Labor, work, gender and political economy, especially in China; labor and feminist movements in China and in a global context
Yige Dong’s primary research interests lie at the intersection of political economy, social inequality and social change.
Her work examines labor and feminist movements in a global context. She has also studied numerous issues relating to China’s economy and society, with expertise on topics such as feminism, welfare policy, gender in the workforce, workers’ migration from rural to urban areas, and employment choices among urban laborers in China.
Dong’s research includes a book project that examines the seven-decade transformation of care work among industrial workers as China has transitioned from state socialism to a capitalist economy.
