On Feb. 16, popular author and broadcast journalist Soledad O'Brien will deliver the University at Buffalo's 36th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Lecture at Buffalo's Kleinhans Music Hall. Her talk comes 45 years after King himself addressed an audience at Kleinhans at the invitation of the UB Graduate Student Association (GSA).

Back from a weeklong service learning trip to Louisiana, three University at Buffalo undergraduates took time to reflect on their experiences on the Gulf Coast.

The stage is set for some important medical advances at the University at Buffalo's Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC). The new UB facility will be housed in the top four floors of the new $291 million joint UB-Kaleida Health building now under construction at Goodrich and Ellicott streets on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine will mark eleven years of providing free treatment to Western New York children who don't have access to dental care when they hold their annual "Give Kids a Smile Day" on Feb. 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Squire Hall on UB's South Campus.

Western New York Public Broadcasting Association and the University at Buffalo are pleased to announce that WBFO-FM 88.7 will become a part of the WNED family of public radio and television stations effective Thursday, March 1.

A University at Buffalo faculty member has anonymously donated $1 million to the university to establish a fund that supports commercializing the discoveries and inventions of his UB colleagues. The donation will establish the Bruce Holm Memorial Catalyst Fund, named for the UB senior vice provost who died last year and whom UB President Satish K. Tripathi described as "the exemplification of researcher, educator, collaborator and entrepreneur."

A total of $7,500 in scholarship money will be awarded to six University at Buffalo students during the UB Alumni Association scholarship dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, in the Center for the Tomorrow on the North Campus.

Chiedza Maponga '88, director of the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) pharmacy program, knows that he alone can't treat the hundreds of thousands of patients with HIV in his native country. But he believes he can do it with help. This year, help arrived in the form of four graduate students who traveled with Maponga from Zimbabwe to the University at Buffalo to train in a collaborative program that prepares them to treat HIV/AIDS patients.

Bloggers and other social network users are more likely to share knowledge online where the qualities of trust, strong social ties and reciprocity are present, according to a study forthcoming in the Journal of Management Information Systems.

Laura E. Hubbard, associate vice president for budget and finance at the University of Oregon, has been named vice president for finance and administration at the University at Buffalo.
