The UB Center for the Arts will conclude its 2002/2003 KeyBank Dance Series with a performance by the Limon Dance Company at 8 p.m. April 11 in the Mainstage Theatre of the center on the North Campus.

The University at Buffalo's Poetry/Rare Books Collection has received the first grant to be awarded to the university from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which has given $170,000 to support development of an online scholarly edition of James Joyce's novel "Ulysses."

As he packed off the army knapsack used by renowned "wartime poet" Robert Graves, Robert Bertholf -- curator of the University at Buffalo Poetry and Rare Books Collection -- reflected on the value of the items he often sends to museums from around the world. The knapsack was sent last month to the Imperial War Museum in London, where it is part of the exhibition, "Anthem for Doomed Youth: Twelve Soldier Poets of the First World War." It is one of four major exhibits in which the UB Poetry and Rare Books Collection, which is quietly achieving international notoriety for its significance, is participating over the next few months.

The study of coral reefs will be the focus of a presentation by Mary Alice Coffroth on Oct. 16 that will be part of the College of Arts and Sciences Fall Lecture Series.

The University at Buffalo Anderson Gallery is ready to premiere its renovated spaces and never-before exhibited pieces from the collection of David K. Anderson in the exhibition "Ode to Joy," which will open Oct. 5 in the gallery on Martha Jackson Place.

"Led by Language" by Rachel Tzvia Back has been called a "groundbreaking study" of the enigmatic experimental American poet Susan Howe, professor of English at the University at Buffalo. Published recently by the University of Alabama Press as part of its Modern and Contemporary Poetry Series, this is the first full-length study of Howe, who is known for having changed several literary genres.

The goal of the massive international project being coordinated at the University at Buffalo is no less than to produce a critical investigation of a major author's creative processes unparalleled in the history of literary scholarship. It involves the annotation, cross-referencing and publication in print and on DVD of the content of the 60 handwritten notebooks assembled by James Joyce and scores of assistants during the 16 years it took the author to write his masterwork, "Finnegans Wake."

Canadian conceptual and sound poet Christian Bok, a postdoctoral fellow in the University at Buffalo Poetics Program, has been named one of two winners of the second annual Griffin Poetry Prize, Canada's most prestigious literary prize and a major international literary award.
