Lance Armstrong, seven-time Tour de France winner and founder of the Lance Armstrong Foundation has been added to the spring lineup of the University at Buffalo's Distinguished Speakers Series.

Four University at Buffalo students presented original research in diverse fields to elected officials and State University of New York Chancellor Nancy Zimpher as part of "Discovery -- An Undergraduate Showcase," a symposium on undergraduate research and creative activities presented by the SUNY Faculty Senate.

The Center for the Arts Video Production Group at the University at Buffalo has been nominated for a 2012 New York Emmy Award. The honor recognizes a promotional video on the Buffalo Philharmonic Youth Concert Series produced by the Center for the Arts Video Production Group and UB's Division of Student Affairs.

Two faculty members in the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning have won an international design competition with their proposal that the public be given free rein to take over derelict strip mall sites like Buffalo's Central Park Plaza and design and build their own urban communities in a manner that would be, they say, "not unlike the settling of the American frontier."

"Buoyant," a garden installation designed by Laura Garofalo, assistant professor of architecture in the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning, has been selected by an international jury to be featured at the 13th International Garden Festival of Les Jardin de Metis (also known as Redford Gardens), in Quebec, Canada, June 23 to Sept. 30.

Professionals and others who work with issues of poverty in Buffalo are invited to attend Buffalo Poverty Workshop III to hear about new and ongoing research, promising strategies, opportunities for collaboration and to network with those in the field.
