Knight Named to NIH Surgery, Anesthesiology Study Section

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Paul R. Knight, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Anesthesiology in the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, has been named to the Surgery, Anesthesiology and Trauma Study Section of the Division of Research Grants of the National Institutes of Health.

Study section members review grant applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations on these applications to the appropriate NIH national advisory council or board, and survey the status of research in their fields of science. Members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors.

A UB faculty member since 1992, Knight previously was a professor in the Department of Anesthesiology in the University at Michigan Medical Center.

Knight is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Anesthesiology. He has written or co-written more than 60 articles for publication in scholarly journals, and more than 100 book chapters. He also has served as a reviewer for the journal Anesthesiology and has delivered more than 40 presentations at professional conferences.

Knight earned a bachelor's degree in medicine science from the University of Nebraska and medical and doctoral degrees from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. He resides on Grand Island.
