Michael Cohen to Head Child Neurology Society

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Michael E. Cohen, M.D., professor of neurology and pediatrics and chair of the University at Buffalo Department of Neurology, has been elected president of the Child Neurology Society for a two-year term beginning in October.

The Child Neurology Society, with 1,200 members, is the major professional organization in its field. Cohen has been active in the organization since 1979.

Chief of neurology at The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, Cohen has been a member of the UB faculty since 1968 and has chaired his department since 1985. A native of Buffalo, Cohen attended Dartmouth College and holds a medical degree from the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Class of 1961.

A specialist in child neurology with expertise in pediatric neuro-oncology, Cohen is the author of three books, more than 100 book chapters and articles in professional journals, and has lectured widely in his field. He is a member of the Brain Tumor Core Committee of the Pediatric Oncology Group and chairs its Neuroscience Committee.

He is past president of the Professors of Child Neurology and has been active in the International Child Neurology Association, in addition to the American Academy of Neurology and the American Neurologic Association.

He also holds leadership positions in several Western New York Jewish organizations.

Cohen lives in Williamsville.
