Although implementation of a law that lowered the age at which juveniles in New York State can be prosecuted as adults for some crimes has calmed many critics of the juvenile-justice system, it has done little to hold juveniles accountable for their offenses or reduce the rate of violent juvenile crime, a University at Buffalo sociologist maintains.

A former member of the State University of New York Board of Trustees, the speaker of the Canadian House of Commons and an Emmy Award-winning director will be among those honored when the University at Buffalo Alumni Association holds its annual awards dinner in May.
