BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A scientific article co-authored by Sebastian G. Ciancio, D.D.S., professor and chair of the Department of Periodontology in the School of Dental Medicine, recently won the annual Clinical Research Award from Quintessence Publishing Co.
The award honors an outstanding published scientific manuscript having direct clinical relevance and application to the practice of periodontics.
The article, co-authored by University of Oslo researchers Hans S. Preus, D.D.S., Ph.D.; Jorgen Lassen, D.D.S., and Anne M. Aass, D.D.S., describes the efficacy of the antibiotic minocycline on specific bacteria associated with periodontal diseases.
Ciancio, a Jamestown native and UB dental graduate, is recognized nationally for his research on prescription and over-the-counter products and dental aids for improving oral health, especially in the area of periodontal (gum) disease.
He has been included in the 1997-98 edition of "Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare."
Ciancio resides in Amherst.
