Future Treatments And Prevention of Stroke to Be Discussed

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- "Future Treatments and Prevention of Stroke" will be the topic of a UB at SUNRISE program to be held at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in the Center for Tomorrow on the University at Buffalo North (Amherst) Campus.

The program will be presented by L. Nelson Hopkins, M.D., professor and chair of the UB Department of Neurosurgery, director of the new Toshiba Stroke Research Center at UB and chief of neurosurgery at Millard Fillmore Health System.

Hopkins is a pioneer in the use of endovascular techniques -- working within the blood vessels with catheters -- to treat cerebrovascular diseases and prevent stroke, the third leading cause of death in the U.S. and the number one cause of adult disab ility.

"UB at SUNRISE" is a series of breakfast programs produced by the UB Alumni Association and UB's Office of Conferences and Special Events, News Services and Office of Publications. It also is supported by the Office of University Development and Offi ce for Public Service and Urban Affairs. The Buffalo Marriott is corporate sponsor of "UB at SUNRISE."

The price of the program, which will include a full breakfast, is $10 for UB Alumni Association members and $12 for all others.
