Counsel to Human Rights Watch to Speak At UB

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Julia Hall, a 1996 graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Law and counsel to the Helsinki division of Human Rights Watch, will discuss women's human rights in Bosnia at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, in 545 O'Brian Hall on the UB North (Amherst) Campus.

Hall recently returned from Bosnia, where she examined human-rights abuses of women on behalf of Human Rights Watch, a leading U.S.-based human-rights organization.

She also has conducted extensive human-rights research in Northern Ireland and authored the report "To Serve Without Favor: Policing, Human Rights and Accountability in Northern Ireland."

Hall, 1996 recipient of the Max Koren Award from the law school, as well as numerous fellowships for overseas study, has been active in many citizen groups, including the Western New York Peace Center.

Her lecture is sponsored by the UB Human Rights Center/UB Law School.

She also will discuss "Solving the Northern Ireland Dilemma: Human Rights in Balance" at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Rich Renaissance Niagara, West Ferry and Niagara streets, Buffalo. That talk is under the aegis of the Buffalo Council on World Affairs.
