BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Barbara J. Ricotta has been named associate vice president and dean of students in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs at the University at Buffalo.
A member of the university staff since 1984, Ricotta had served in the position in an interim capacity since August 1997.
"Her leadership in this role on an interim basis during the past year has greatly enabled us to move forward our many efforts to put students first," said Dennis Black, UB vice president for student affairs, in announcing the appointment. "I look forward to working with her, as our student-affairs team endeavors to maintain current strengths and develop actions for excellence in the future."
As dean of students, Ricotta will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of a wide range of student-service units. They include the Office of Student Life, Student Health Center, Wellness Center, Counseling Center, Disability Services, Judicial Affairs, Ombudsman Program, Career Planning and Placement, Leadership Programs, Student Union, New Student Programs, Student Activities, Student Multicultural Affairs and Greek Affairs.
Prior to her appointment as interim dean of students, she served as director of student life. She previously was associate director of student life and assistant to the director of student information services. Before joining UB, she was a member of the professional staff at California State University-Fresno, Kings River Community College in Reedley, Calif., and Fredonia State College.
Ricotta holds a master's degree in student personnel administration from Buffalo State College and a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Fredonia State College.
She is a member of the Professional Staff Senate at UB. Other professional affiliations include the College Student Personnel Association of New York State, an organization she has served as regional coordinator, treasurer and vice president; the National Orientation Directors Association; National Association of Student Personnel Administrators; American College Personnel Association, and Association of College Union International.
She is a resident of Getzville.
