BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A new 10-week certificate program in human-resource management is being offered by the Center for Management Development in the University at Buffalo School of Management. The program will be offered from 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays from Sept. 17 to Nov. 19 on UB's North (Amherst) Campus.

Taught by Joseph Salamone, assistant professor of organization and human resources, and Joseph Kuchera, vice president of human resources at Unifrax, the course is designed to give students practical tools to address human-resource issues and opportunities in a variety of organizations. Topics will include the legal environment, the staffing process, organizational and job design, performance management and coaching skills.

"Through corporate down-sizing and the growth of small businesses, an increasing number of professionals find themselves in management and supervisory positions without receiving formal training in how to best utilize and interact with employees," says Salamone.

"This program provides an opportunity for managers and human-resource professionals to learn HR concepts that will make them more effective business leaders."

The cost of the program is $959. For more information, call 645-3200.
