Ciancio Honored By American Dental Association

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Sebastian G. Ciancio, professor and chair of the Department of Periodontics in the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, recently was honored by officers and trustees of the American Dental Association (ADA) for outstanding and dedicated service to the ADA's Council on Scientific Affairs.

Appointed to the council in 1994 in recognition of his expertise in the area of clinical dental pharmacology, Ciancio served as a member until 1997. He was council vice chair this year.

He also was named by the publication Dentistry Today as one of nation's leading lecturers in the area of continuing dental education, an honor he also received in 1997.

A graduate of the UB dental school, the Eggertsville resident and Jamestown native is nationally known for his research in the treatment of periodontal (gum) disease.

Active in numerous professional organizations, Ciancio continues as a consultant to the council and chairs the dental division of the U.S. Pharmacopeia.
