Walters Named Director of Internal Audit

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Gary J. Walters has been named director of the UB Internal Audit Department.

Walters, who served as acting director of the Internal Audit Department since 1998, has been working as an auditor in the department since 1977. As director, he is responsible for the administration of the department and for developing and executing the department's annual audit plan.

Some of Walters' accomplishments at UB include the establishment of accounting policies and procedures for various business operations, including the Division of Athletics; WBFO-88.7 FM, and University Print and Mail Services, and the development of an audit program and survey to review UB's compliance with federal and state regulations governing the administration of controlled substances.

In 1992, he received a Service Excellence Award from UB for writing the user manual for the university's computerized budget system.

Walters is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Niagara University.

He lives in Hamburg.
