McGuire Heads UB Office of Technology Transfer And Licensing

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Jerry McGuire has been named director of the Office of Technology Transfer and Licensing in the University at Buffalo Business Alliance.

McGuire comes to UB after a 27-year career in marketing and technology transfer with Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Pittsburgh.

He has traveled extensively, negotiating license agreements and creating business alliances on six continents through the transfer of technology, patent licensing and trademarks.

Most recently, he was director of international marketing, with responsibility for Westinghouse's international marketing and contract compliance program. He instituted a global marketing strategic plan for the company that included establishing more than 700 international sales agents and distributors in 65 countries for the worldwide sale of various Westinghouse product lines. The position also included administering a training program for company sales personnel in marketing techniques in foreign countries.

Previously, McGuire was manager of international licensing operations for Westinghouse, that included a portfolio of 150 licensees in 43 countries. His responsibilities included creating and implementing marketing plans for technology transfer to foreign licensees, forming business alliances through technology transfer and patent license agreements, and identifying and evaluating licensing candidates in global markets.

His first position at Westinghouse was as industrial/construction field salesman.

McGuire is a member of the Licensing Executives Society and the Association of University Technology Managers.

He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a Masters of Business Administration with high honors from the University of Pittsburgh.

He lives in Williamsville.
