BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Gail E. Radford, assistant professor of history at the University at Buffalo, has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and from the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS).
ACLS funds humanities research, with its grants designed to permit distinguished scholars to devote a full year to research and writing.
Radford is on leave for the calendar year 1999 and will use the two grants to pursue research on a new book, "The Invention of Invisible Government: State Action Through Public Corporations and Authorities."
A faculty member at UB since 1993, Radford teaches 20th-century U.S. history. A specialist in U.S. politics and public policy, her previous book, "Modern Housing for America: Policy Struggles in the New Deal Era," was published by the University of Chicago Press in 1996.
She received a doctorate from Columbia University in 1989.
Radford resides in Buffalo.
