BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Yosef Livne, deputy consul general for the Consul General of Israel in New York, will discuss American-Israeli relations at 1:45 p.m. March 19 in the Student Union Theatre on the UB North Campus as part of the 14th annual Wasserman Conference.

"Building Bridges" is the theme of the conference, presented by Hillel of Buffalo, to be held from 1-5:30 p.m. in the Student Union Theatre. Hillel is the Campus Center for Jewish Life for students at UB and at other local colleges and universities.

The conference will be open to the public. Registration is free to students who register in advance and $2 at the door. The cost is $10 for members of the community.

A variety of speakers and workshops will highlight the conference, which honors the late Arthur Wasserman, a longtime friend and supporter of Hillel.

Livne, who was born in Tel Aviv, has held a variety of diplomatic posts for Israel, including those in Mexico City, Santiago and Brasilia, and more recently as ambassador to El Salvador.

He holds a master's degree in political science from the University of Haifa, specializing in Israel's national security, and a bachelor's degree in political science from Tel Aviv University.

Following his speech, several UB students who toured Israel in January will discuss their experiences.

Six workshops focusing on Jewish politics, culture and spirituality, and their relevance in today's world will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

For further information or to register for the conference, call Hillel of Buffalo at 639-8361.

Conference co-sponsors are the UB Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences and the American Jewish Committee, Buffalo/Niagara chapter.
