BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A traditional Passover Seder and meal will be held at 6 p.m. April 19 in Pistachio's in the Student Union on the UB North Campus.
Hillel Foundation of Buffalo, Inc. and the Campus Center for Jewish Life are sponsoring the traditional event for members of the university community and the community at large.
Cost of the Seder and dinner will be $12 for students and $15 for non-students. Call 639-836l before April 17 for reservations.
The Festival of Pesach celebrates the Israelites' escape from slavery and oppression in Egypt during Biblical times. During the Seder, which means "order," the story of Exodus is retold using special prayers and foods.
On the Seder plate are the symbolic egg, a mixture of apples, nuts and wine (Charoset), bitter herbs, a shank bone and parsley. A holiday meal also is served.
"We welcome Jewish families who don't have plans for a Seder, as well as non-Jews who would like to learn about this holiday and share in its tradition," said Susan Goldberg Pardo, executive director of Hillel.
