Workshop to Focus on Proposals to Niagara County Environmental Fund

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Two workshops will be held for applicants who plan to submit grant proposals to the Niagara County Environmental Fund (NCEF).

The workshops are scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 30 in the community meeting room of the Lockport Public Library, 23 East Ave., Lockport, and at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 in the second-floor auditorium of the Niagara Falls Public Library, 1425 Main St., Niagara Falls.

The workshops will focus on grant application guidelines and structuring and writing grant proposals, which will be evaluated by the 13-member Niagara Fund Advisory Panel.

The NCEF was established with $2.5 million as part of the Love Canal settlement between New York State and Occidental Chemical Corp. It is administered by the New York State Center for Hazardous Waste Management at the University at Buffalo.

Proposals must be for projects that promote environmental education or enhance the environment. They will be accepted from public institutions, not-for-profit corporations or individuals residing or having business offices in Niagara County.

The projects must encourage, inspire and facilitate activities by volunteers, seasonal employees, organizations and educational institutions that enhance, maintain, care for and provide access to Niagara County's environment and ecology and educate individuals about the county's environment.

An original and 15 copies of each proposal must be received by 5 p.m. March 2 at either the New York State Center for Hazardous Waste Management, 207 Jarvis Hall, University at Buffalo, Buffalo, N.Y. 14260; Niagara County Soil and Water Conservation District, Niagara County Fairgrounds, 4787 Lake Ave., Lockport, N.Y. 14094; Niagara Falls City Building, 1022 Main St., Niagara Falls, N.Y. 14304, or the North Tonawanda Public Library, 505 Meadow Drive, North Tonawanda, N.Y. 14120.

Copies of proposals will not be accepted via email or fax.
