BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Nutrition, dietary supplements and exercise programs that help restore and improve cardiac and physical functioning will be the topics of a new University at Buffalo Mini-Medical School course to be taught July 17 through Aug. 7 at the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Classes will be held from 7-9 p.m. July 17, 24 and 31 and Aug. 7 in Butler Auditorium, 150 Farber Hall, on the UB South (Main Street) Campus.
The popular Mini-Medical School is a community-service program offered through the medical school. Esther and Don Davis sponsor the program.
Topics and presenters scheduled are:
o July 17: "Dietary Supplements," Cedric M. Smith, M.D., professor emeritus of pharmacology and toxicology
o July 24: "Cardiac Rehabilitation," Sandra Van Every, a cardiac rehabilitation specialist at Buffalo General Hospital of Kaleida Health; "Rehabilitation of Common Injuries," John J. Leddy, M.D., associate director of UB's Sports Medicine Clinic and assistant professor of orthopaedics
o July 31: "Nutrition: Eat Healthy -- Live Better," Peter Horvath, Ph.D., associate professor of nutrition science.
o Aug. 7: "Alternative Medicine," Richard V. Lee, M.D., professor of medicine, pediatrics and gynecology-obstetrics
The cost of the four-session course is $20 for students, $30 for individuals, $45 for couples, $25 for seniors 65 and older, and $40 for senior couples.
