BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Former President William J. Clinton will be at the University at Buffalo as a "student choice" speaker at 4 p.m. on April 10 in Alumni Arena on the UB North (Amherst) Campus.
The speech by the 42nd President of the United States is expected to focus on national and world events; Clinton will take questions from the audience.
Clinton, who has waived his honorarium for the speech, was invited to speak by UB and its undergraduate Student Association. Student leaders reported Clinton was their first choice for a speaker this academic year and said no other speaker would generate as much student interest.
No admission will be charged for the lecture, however, tickets will be required. There will be a limit of two tickets per person.
UB students will have an initial, exclusive time period -- from March 6-15 -- to pick up their free tickets. Should any tickets remain after the students-only ticketing opportunity, UB faculty and staff will have access to them beginning March 19. Starting March 26, the general public is invited to claim tickets, should any continue to be available.
Tickets will be distributed exclusively through the box office of the Center for the Arts on the North Campus, which is open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Tickets will not be available at the door.
Students, as well as faculty and staff, must present a valid UB ID to obtain tickets. Both reserved seating and general admission tickets will be distributed, with the best available tickets to be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis.
While no admission will be charged for the presidential lecture, voluntary donations will be accepted by the undergraduate Student Association at the lecture for the "Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund," which was established by President Clinton and former Sen. Robert J. Dole. The fund is designed to provide post-secondary education assistance to financially needy dependents of individuals killed or permanently disabled as a result of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and during the rescue activities relating to the attacks.
Clinton's visit to UB is being coordinated by UB's Office of Special Events and sponsored by the undergraduate Student Association. For additional information, contact the Office of Special Events at 645-6147, ext. 228.
