BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Four national experts from the investment-management industry will try to make sense of the turbulent stock market at an "Investment Forum" sponsored by the MBA program at the University at Buffalo School of Management.
To be held from 7-9 p.m. on Nov. 11 in Slee Concert Hall on UB's North (Amherst) Campus, the panel discussion is designed for UB MBA students, but will be free and open to the public.
The discussion will give the audience an insider's perspective on the ups and downs of the market and will be moderated by Lewis Mandell, UB professor of finance and managerial economics, who teaches a graduate-level course in investment management.
"Our panelists are heavy-hitters in the world of investment management," said Mandell. "They're prepared to tell our students what it's really like on the inside, where classroom theory meets the real world."
The panelists are: Elizabeth P. Henderson, managing director, investment consulting, CRA RogersCasey; J. Matthew McCormick, director, investment consulting, CRA RogersCasey; Leslie A. Brun, chairman and founder, Hamilton Lane, and Jonathan W. Reynolds, senior vice president, fiduciary administration, HSBC Bank.
They will discuss the possibility of market deflation, speculate on what sectors might experience growth and try to predict how the market might be affected by war. After the formal session, the panel members will take questions from the audience.
At CRA RogersCasey, based in Darien, Conn., Henderson leads a team of professionals that provides consulting services to corporate and public pension plans, endowment funds, and financial intermediaries. McCormick serves as a senior consultant for corporate and public pension plans and endowment funds.
Brun focuses on strategy and decision-making as a member of Hamilton Lane's investment committee. The firm provides global private-equity investment services and has offices in Philadelphia and Denver.
Reynolds is responsible for HSBC's Fiduciary Services, which encompasses the Custody and Retirement Services businesses. Reynolds has performed various investment and trust-related functions, including six years managing Marine Midland's Tax Exempt Bond portfolio and seven years as Chief Investment Officer and head of Trust and Investment Management.
Mandell brings considerable expertise of his own to the forum. He is a director of the Travelers Annuities board, which is a subsidiary of Citigroup. He is a director of the Delaware North Corp. of Buffalo and was a long-time director of GZA Environmental until the board took it private in 2000. He also is a special member of the UB Foundation's Investment Committee and serves on the national boards of the Jump$tart Coalition for Financial Literacy and the American Financial Services Association's Education Foundation.
