BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Students in the University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning recently received awards for excellence in their fields of study.
Award winners in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning were:
o Ivan Kondili of Brooklyn, the BAED Service Award
o Robert J. Wisener of Erie, Pa., the MUP Service Award
o Shawntera M. Hardy of Youngstown, Ohio, the MUP Public Service Award o Amy E. Fisk of Tonawanda, the AICP Planning Excellence Award. Fisk also was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."
o Kenneth C. Zollitsch of Lancaster, the R. Buckminster Fuller Award, presented to a graduating bachelor's degree student returning to UB to enroll in the master's program in architecture or urban planning. Zollitsch also was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."
o Peter A. Lombardi of Jamestown, the Dean's Certificate, which is awarded to the junior continuing for his or her final senior year who has achieved the highest overall grade-point average
o Joanna B. Rogalski of Lake View, Samuel S. Gold of Slingerlands and Kathryn P. Stoutenburg of Fairport, the Dean's Certificate awarded to the student returning for his or her final year in the master's program in urban planning who has achieved the highest overall GPA.
Stoutenburg also was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."
o Curtis W. Robbins of Kenmore, the BAED Academic Excellence Award. Robbins also was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."
o Steven A. Watchorn of Niskayuna and Federico Rodriguez Gutierrez of Carrasquilla, Panama, the MUP Academic Excellence Award. Gutierrez also received the Best Thesis Award.
o Tha'er A.K. Haj-Ahmad of Ramallha, West Bank, the Jammal Fellowship Award, Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges
o Stuart L. Wagner of Cameron Park, Calif., Best Professional Project
Undergraduate award winners in the Department of Architecture were:
o Jana Kasikova of Syracuse (senior), Matthew Zinski of Altamont (junior), Kimberly Suczynski of Williamsville (sophomore) and Carrie Moldovan of Warren, Pa., (freshman), the Academic Excellence Award, presented to the students in each class with the highest overall GPA.
Kasikova also received a Who's Who Certificate, awarded in recognition of academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
Zinski also received a Dean's Certificate, which is awarded to a junior continuing for his or her final senior year who has achieved the highest overall grade-point average. In addition, he received a Who's Who Certificate, awarded in recognition of academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
o Seniors Jose Chang of Brooklyn, Travis Ingersoll of Buffalo and Christopher Romano of Baldwin; junior Erina Ardianto of Indonesia; sophomores Sylvia Feng of New York City and Taigo Itadani of Japan, and freshmen Omar Hakeem of Bethesda, Md., and Matthew Hume of Stafford, the Design Excellence Award, presented to students who have produced outstanding studio work
Chang also received the first place Pella/WESTNY Scholarship award for superior use of fenestration in architectural design.
Ingersoll also received a Who's Who Certificate, awarded in recognition of academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
Carlos Rodriguez of East Elmhurst, the Schomburg Fellowship. Rodriguez also received a Who's Who Certificate, awarded in recognition of academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success:

o Stephanie Hiller of Buffalo (first year of two-year graduate program in architecture), Anirban Adyha of India (second year of two-year graduate program), Philip Derby of Buffalo (first year of a three-year program), Apisit Thanavuthiporn of Thailand (second year of three-year program), Lynette Markofski of North Tonawanda (third year of three-year program), Marie Carone of Cheektowaga (fourth year of three-year program) and Tobias Mathijssen of Germany (one-year program), the Academic Excellence Award, presented to students with the highest overall grade-point average.
Adyha also received the Henry Adams Medal, given to the top-ranking graduating student in the architecture program.

Hiller also received the Dean's Certificate, awarded to the student returning for his or her final year in the master's program in architecture who has achieved the highest overall grade-point average.
o Mark Ferrari of Poplar Ridge and Elisabeth Perreault of Brighton, Mich., Design Excellence Awards, presented to the master's students who have produced outstanding studio work.
Ferrari also received the Alpha Rho Chi medal awarded by this national professional fraternity for the promotion of professional quality and the recognition of leadership, service and merit.
Perreault also received the Henry Adams Certificate of Merit given to the architecture student with the second highest GPA.
o Leily Vassigh of Buffalo, the American Institute of Architects/American Architectural Foundation Scholarship
o Erika Abbondanzieri of Webster, a Who's Who Certificate awarded in recognition of academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success
o Mauro Cringoli of Rochester (two-year program) and Jason Sokolowski of Cheektowaga (three-year program) the Chair's Award presented to a graduating first-professional-degree candidate chosen from each of the master's programs for consistent, high-caliber design work performed in the design studios.
