UB School of Public Health and Health Professions Honors Graduates

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Thirty-two new graduates of School of Public Health and Health Professions at the University at Buffalo were honored with scholarships and awards during the school's recent commencement ceremony.

The University at Buffalo is a premier research-intensive public university, the largest and most comprehensive campus in the State University of New York. UB's more than 23,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students pursue their academic interests through more than 100 undergraduate programs, 112 master's programs and 98 doctoral-level programs.

The award recipients were:

• Brooke Lea Barratt of Kenmore, the Medical Technology Award for Highest Scholastic Achievement recognizing the student with the highest grade-point average in the three semesters of program courses in medical technology, the New York State American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science Scholarship and the Mary Cecina Riforgiato Memorial Scholarship Award recognizing a graduating senior in the medical technology program for outstanding academic achievement

• Dmitry David Beyder of Amherst, the Mary A. Osborne Scholarship

• Matthew R. Bonner of Hamburg, the Saxon Graham Award presented to a doctoral student who has demonstrated excellence in epidemiology

• Ann Deutsch of Naperville, Ill., the Postdoctoral Fellowship of the Institute for Health Services Research and Policy Studies at Northwestern University

• Michelle Anne Fedeson of Cheektowaga, the Medical Technology Award for Highest Scholastic Achievement recognizing the student with the highest grade-point average in the three semesters of program courses in medical technology

• Mary Anne Herzog of Mohegan Lake, the Occupational Therapy Program Award and induction into the Tau Chapter of Pi Theta Epsilon, occupational therapy national honor society. Herzog also was named "Outstanding Graduating Senior," recognizing her academic performance, leadership and service to the university and community.

• Robin L. Hoos of Buffalo, the J. Warren Perry Scholarship, a Stonegraber Scholarship and induction into the Tau Chapter of Pi Theta Epsilon, occupational therapy national honor society

• Laura Jabcuga of Buffalo, the Alfred T. Caffiero Scholarship Award

• Tegan Johnson of Dexter, the Alfred T. Caffiero Scholarship Award

• Amy Lou Licata of Hamburg, the Niagara Frontier Chapter of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science Scholarship

• Mirna Lis Martinez of Rochester, the Sara Marie Cicarelli Memorial Scholarship

• Kulwara Meksawan of Bangkok, Thailand, the Carlton R. Meyers Award recognizing an outstanding graduate student from the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Science

• Karen L. Mercier of Tonawanda, the Linda A. Walters Memorial Scholarship Award and induction into the Tau Chapter of Pi Theta Epsilon, occupational therapy national honor society

• Therese Rafalowski Welch of Webster, the Francis Hanavan Award for academic excellence in the areas of teaching and research

• Andrew D. Ray of East Amherst, the J. Warren Perry Scholarship

• Teresa Tan of Amherst, the Wyeth Lederle Vaccines Award for the Biotechnology Student of the Year presented to the biotechnology major with the highest grade-point average in the program

• Amanda B. Wydysh of North Tonawanda, the Kathleen M. Shaffer Memorial Scholarship Award recognizing excellence in the occupational therapy program

• David Yun of New York City, inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society

The following students received Annette Rachman Scholarships recognizing students who maintain at least a "B" average studying in the field of nutrition and dietetics:
