BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo School of Management and all of its undergraduate, master's and doctoral business programs have been reaccredited by AACSB International -- The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
"We are very pleased with the results of this process," said John M. Thomas, dean of the UB School of Management. "This prestigious accreditation is considered to be the hallmark of management education."
The School of Management has been continuously accredited by the association since 1930.
AACSB's Maintenance Accreditation Committee concurred with the recommendations of an AACSB review team, which visited the school for two days in February to evaluate the school's strategic plan and meet with faculty, staff, alumni and students. The AACSB board of directors in mid-July ratified the committee's recommendation to grant the School of Management re-accreditation.
In their report to the AACSB accreditation board, the AACSB review team praised the strategic planning process, the school's commitment to scholarship, the role of the new Alfiero Center in creating a sense of pride and community among students, and noted that the School of Management's learning assessment initiative is creative and well ahead of many major U.S. business schools.
They also were impressed with the school's international programs and the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership.
Accreditation review historically has been conducted every 10 years and the school began preparing for the process several years ago.
"I am tremendously proud of our faculty and staff for the commitment they made to a long, arduous process," said Thomas. "I commend them for their superb work on the many committees that provided contributions to our final report."
AACSB has updated its process, and future re-accreditations now will be conducted every five years. According to Thomas, plans are already under way for the next review in 2010-11.
The University at Buffalo School of Management is ranked among the world's top business schools by The Wall Street Journal based on a survey of corporate recruiters. It is cited by Forbes as one of the best business schools in the world based on the return on investment it provides MBA graduates.
