BUFFALO, N.Y. -- "John Hultberg: Vanishing Point," an exhibition in UB Anderson Gallery highlighting 21 paintings and 14 graphic works from the University at Buffalo's permanent collection, will be celebrated on Sept. 29 with a reception from 6-8 p.m. and lecture at 7:30 p.m.
The lecture, entitled "John Hultberg: In Context," and delivered by Harry Rand, the Smithsonian Institution's Senior Curator of Cultural History, will place Hultberg in relation to his artistic peers of the 1950s and '60s. Rand is the author or co-author of more than 13 books and 50 articles on art, culture, poetry and theology, has contributed to more than 30 museum exhibitions and catalogues, has published numerous exhibition and book reviews, and has lectured and taught at prestigious universities internationally. He received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1974, his master's degree from Harvard University in 1971 and his bachelor's degree from City College of New York in 1969.
A brochure with an essay by exhibition curator Kristin E. M. Riemer will be available at no charge to all UB Anderson Gallery visitors beginning Sept. 29. The exhibition will remain on view through October 15.
UB Anderson Gallery, located on Martha Jackson Place near Englewood and Kenmore, is open Wednesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Admission to the museum and exhibition is free.
